Along with adjusting MainStage settings, there are several computer settings you should set for maximum efficiency before your show.

These settings have subtly evolved as Apple continues to develop macOS. Thus, the settings mentioned on this page are intended broadly for all users but may appear differently depending on your version of macOS.

Disable Spotlight Indexing

Your computer periodically works in the background to index its contents. That’s usually helpful because it means that when you search for a file, your computer is able to find it right away. However, you don’t want your computer indexing during a show.

To disable, navigate to System Settings > Siri & Spotlight > Spotlight Privacy. Press the ”+” button and add your Home folder.

Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

In addition to indexing files, your computer will also periodically connect to the internet to check for things like app updates. It also might try to connect to nearby Bluetooth devices. Turn these features off so they aren’t happening during a performance.

Turn off your screen saver & lock screen

Disable your computer’s screen saver and lock screen (requiring a password) in system settings.

You can also prevent the screen saver in Perform Mode in MainStage settings under MainStage > Settings > Display / View.

Disable energy saving

In your computer’s system settings, disable settings like “Low Power Mode”, “Turn display off on power adapter when inactive”, “Put hard drives to sleep when possible”, and “Power Nap”.
