# Step 1: Download

## Install MainStage

Before applying for a rental, purchase and download MainStage from the [Apple App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mainstage/id634159523). If you're new to keyboard programming, be sure to read our [introduction to MainStage](/basics/introduction-to-mainstage).

## Download MainStage concert

MainStage files are called **concerts** and contain all of the instruments and sound effects you need for a performance.

After your MagicFox rental has been approved, you'll receive an email with a link to your download portal. MainStage concert files are usually very large (several gigabytes!), so a fast, reliable internet connection is ideal.

<Tip>
  For best results, download your files directly to your computer's hard drive. Downloading to an external drive may result in slower download speeds or failed downloads.
</Tip>

Move the compressed download file to a convenient location on your computer and [unzip it](https://support.apple.com/en-mz/guide/mac-help/mchlp2528/mac).

We do not recommend running MainStage concert files from an external hard drive because data transfer can be slower than your internal hard drive and the USB connection is a potential point of failure.

<Note>
  Our MainStage concert files are watermarked with the name of your organization and production dates. When your production closes, you must permanently delete them.
